Gifts of Hope - Rohi Chlidren's Donation

The Mother Bear Project

Mother Bear Photos - August 15, 2007

Gifts of Hope - Rohi Children's Donation

Thanks to everyone who donated yarn and needles for a trip to Kenya. My friend, Linda Marshall and her group will be traveling to teach women and children to knit and crochet. Their goal is to teach a skill that will enable them to produce items that can be sold. It is so exciting to think that women and children in Kenya are learning the joy of knitting and crochet one strand at a time!

The Mother Bear Project

Update Nov 26: Thanks to everyone who helped us knit or crochet 138 teddy bears for the Mother Bear Project!!!

The Mother Bear Project is a grass-roots, non-profit group dedicated to providing comfort and hope to children, primarily those affected by HIV/AIDS in emerging nations, by giving them a gift of love in the form of hand-knit and crocheted bears.

The response has been overwhelming, with people wanting to help from all over the world.  Thousands of patterns have been distributed, and wonderful bears have been received from people of all ages, backgrounds and knitting abilities.  It has brought people together to do something kind in the face of a horrible problem.

The simple gift of a hand-knit bear with a tag signed by the knitter has touched children who have nearly nothing in the world with the message that they are loved by someone halfway around the world.

To date, over 18,000 have been sent to South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Lesotho, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Burundi, Malawi, Botswana, Rwanda, Uganda, Namibia and other countries as program organizers find out more about children in need.

Although we have completed our group project, if you are still interested in supporting this great program, please Visit the Mother Bear Project website to purchase the pattern (the small fee is used to cover their postage and operating costs). You can then submit additional bears on your own.
